How this course works

1. The promise

You'll know exactly how this course is built, what you do in every unit, what's expected of you before you can move on, and the honest time commitment from here to a working junior-engineer offer.

2. The mental model

This course is built like a gym programme, not a textbook.

A gym programme has the same warm-up, the same set structure, the same cool-down every session. Once you know the shape, every session feels familiar — and you stop thinking about the shape and start thinking about the work.

Every unit in this course has the same six beats in the same order. Every chapter has the same closing assignment shape. You stop wondering "what comes next" by the end of Ch 0 and start thinking only about what's in front of you.

The promise on the door: twelve weeks of full-time work, or twenty-four weeks of part-time work, and you are hireable as a junior developer at a company that uses AI tools. Not a marketing claim — a measurable outcome, with Ch 30 telling you exactly what the interview pipeline looks like and Ch 31 walking you through your first ninety days on the job.

3. You do it, with me

There's nothing to install in this unit. Read along.

The unit shape (six beats). Every unit you read has these in order:

1. The promise — one paragraph, what you'll be able to do at the end.
2. The mental model — the picture in your head before any clicking.
3. You do it, with me — the steps, with screenshots, on your machine.
4. What you should be seeing — the expected state, so you know if you've drifted.
5. Common stumbles — the two to four things that go wrong, named, with the fix.
6. You should know — a checklist of what you should now be able to do.

The chapter shape. Each chapter has many short units, then one bigger assignment unit at the end. The assignment is gated — you can't move to the next chapter until you finish it.

The gate isn't there to slow you down. It's there to stop you carrying a missing skill into the next chapter, where it will quietly cost you days of confusion.

The time commitment. Every unit has an honest est_minutes value at the top. Add them up; that's the chapter. Add the chapters in a block; that's the block. The full course at honest pace is around four hundred and eighty hours of focused work. That's twelve weeks full-time or twenty-four weeks part-time. There is no faster version.

The rules.

• Take notes by hand. Yes, by hand. You'll learn this in Ch 28; here, just trust it.
• Do the screenshots. The course author has personally walked every chapter; the screenshots show you exactly what to look for. If your screen doesn't match, you've drifted.
• Don't paste this course into an AI tool and ask it to summarise. You are training your own model — the one in your head. You'll learn to use AI tools in Ch 22 and Ch 23, but only after you can do the work without them.

4. What you should be seeing

A clear picture in your head of three things:

1. One unit. Six beats, in order, every time.
2. One chapter. Many short units, then one assignment that gates the next chapter.
3. The course. Thirty-two chapters in ten blocks. Foundations first; getting hired last.

If you can list those three things without looking back, you're done with this unit.

5. Common stumbles

• You try to read three chapters in one sitting. This is a daily-cadence course, not a sprint. The reason is in Ch 28: the things you read today decay overnight unless you do tomorrow's reading too. Two units per day for a year beats sixty units in a weekend.
• You skip a chapter's assignment "because you got it". Don't. The next chapter assumes the assignment was done; you'll feel the gap by unit 2 of the next chapter, and by then the fix is harder.
• You wait until you "feel ready" before starting Ch 0.1. You don't have to feel ready. Click into the next unit and start.
